2000 – 2008

 

2008 Russia.

Participation in the international Saint Petersburg Choir Festival 2008.Workshop at the Theatre Museum, recorded by Russian TV for later broadcasting as a separate programme. Full-length concert at the Alexandrinsky Theatre. Performance at the gala concert of the Festival at the Grand Philharmonic Hall in St Petersburg, joint performance with the girls’ choir of Estonian TV and singing the festival hymn with the massed choirs.

 

2007 France.

Concerts and workshop at the Polydome centre in Clermont-Ferrand.

 

2007 Poland.

Invited concert organized by the Scandinavian-Polish Chamber of Commerce and invited concert organized by the Finnish Embassy at the initiative of Ambassador Jan Store in honour of the 90th anniversary of Finland’s independence, both at Philharmonic Hall in Warsaw.

 

2007 Sweden.

Invited concert at Berwaldhallen in Stockholm at the initiative of Ambassador Alec Aalto in honour of the 90th anniversary of Finland’s independence and Finland’s Independence Day.

 

2007 Italy.

Participation in the 16th international choir festival ‘La Fabbrica del Cant’ in Legnano and other towns around Milan.

 

2007 Switzerland.

Participation in the European youth choir festival and Songbridge event in Basle.

 

2007 France.

Concerts in Montbeliard.

 

2006 Denmark.

The tour began in Christianskirken and continued with a workshop the next day. The Choir gave concerts at Herning Church and at Vor Frelsers Kirke in Horsens. The concluding concert of the tour was at Naesby Church.

 

2005 Italy.

The Choir performed at the Parco della Musica in Rome in December. The Maaemo ensemble also performed at an Independence Day reception organized by the Finnish Embassy.

 

2005 China.

In July, the Choir toured China for three weeks, with concerts in Hong Kong, Guangzhou and Ningbo.

 

2005 France.

In June, the Choir performed at Cité de la Musique in Paris.

 

2004 Estonia.

The long-standing project of a visit to Estonia at the invitation of the Estonian Choir Association was finally realized in November. Concerts were given in Tartu, Pärnu and Tallinn. The Tallinn concert was broadcast live on radio.

 

2004 France.

Shortly afterwards, in June, the Choir visited Amiens and other places in Picardie, giving workshops and concerts, at the invitation of Assecarm, founded by the French Ministry of Culture.

In May, the Choir gave concerts in Rouen and Tours.

 

2003 UK.

The Choir toured Germany for a week in June. The tour began at a contemporary music festival led by Kaija Saariaho in Saarbrücken. Along the way, the Choir gave concerts in Welschneudorf, Bad Kissingen and Wolfratshausen, ending up at the opening concert of the international chamber choir competition at Marktoberdorf.

 

2003 UK.

In September, the Choir appeared to great acclaim at the World Voice festival in London, with two concerts and one workshop at Queen Elizabeth Hall.

 

2001 France, Belgium, Germany.

The Choir went on a summer tour to France, Belgium and Germany. The venues were the Les Conviviales festival in Normandy in France, the Wallonia Festival in Belgium and the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival in Germany.

 

2001 France.

In November, the Choir gave a concert at a seminar of Nordic choral music at Cité de la Musique in Paris. Kari Ala-Pöllänen and the Choir also gave a workshop.

 

2000 Germany, France.

The Choir appeared at EXPO 2000 in Hannover. In France, the Choir performed in the departement of Poitou-Charentes. There was a masterclass and workshop for choir conductors in Saintes, with Kari Ala-Pöllänen as the keynote speaker.

 

1990 – 1999

 

1999 USA, Netherlands.

A workshop and concert tour; international children’s choir festival in Des Moines, the opening concert for Finland’s EU Presidency in Washington D.C., and the Songbridge 2000 event at the 5th World Symposium on Choral Music organized by the IFCM in Rotterdam.

 

1999 Belgium, France, Luxembourg.

An EU gala concert at the La Monnaie opera in Brussels and in Strasbourg.

 

1998 Australia.

Conductor Kari Ala-Pöllänen and two choir members had a residency with the Gondwana Voices choir for two weeks, and their conductor Lyn Williams returned the visit with two of heir choir members.

 

1998 Germany.

Concerts in Düsseldorf and Rheine, among other places.

 

1997 Belgium, Netherlands, Germany.

A December tour in honour of the 80th anniversary of Finland’s independence. The main concert was at Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf. The Choir also gave concerts in Brussels, Namur, the Hague and Cologne.

 

1997 Canada, USA.

Concerts and workshops; Northern Encounters Festival, Festival Canada, Niagara International Music Festival, Finnish Canadian Grand Festival (including Toronto, Ottawa, Sault Ste Marie).

 

1996 Denmark, Sweden.

In connection with Copenhagen being the European Capital of Culture, the Choir performed in the Human Voice concert series. Concerts organized by Musik i Skåne in towns in southern Sweden: Helsingborg, Lund, Malmö, Kristianstad.

 

1996 Singapore, Taiwan, Philippines, Australia, Tasmania.

A four-week tour of concerts, demonstrations and workshops, including performances at the 4th World Symposium on Choral Music organized by the IFCM in Sydney; UNESCO Prize for the Promotion of the Performing Arts.

 

1996 Spain, France.

Seminar and concert tour; Basque country (Tolosa, San Sebastian), Navarra (Pamplona), Catalonia (Barcelona, St. Cugat, Montserrat).

 

1995 Germany.

Concerts at Eurotreff in Wolfenbüttel and radio concerts at the Volksoper and the Konzerthalle in Hamburg (NDR), at the Gewandhaus in Leipzig (MDR) and in Berlin (Deutschlandradio).

 

1995 Japan.

Concert at the opening of the Shizuoka Concert Hall (12 singers). Collaboration with Shizuoka children’s choir, Japanese composer Michio Mamiya and Finnish composer Olli Kortekangas.

 

1994 USA.

Four-week ‘Five Festivals Tour’ of the USA: Oregon Bach Festival in Eugene, the Kathaumixw festival in Powell River in Canada, AmericaFest in Minneapolis, the DeKalb international choir festival in Atlanta and the ISME world conference in Tampa. Concerts, demonstrations and workshops.

 

1994 Russia.

Christmas concert in January (according to the Julian calendar) at the Grand Philharmonic Hall in St Petersburg and in Keltto Church in Ingria.

 

1993 France.

Tour including Lyon, Festival Vaison-la-Romaine and Été Musical Loire Forez. The conductor was Kari Ala-Pöllänen.

 

1993 Germany.

Concerts at the Hammoniale festival in Hamburg.

 

1993 Germany, Czech Republic.

30th anniversary tour of the Tapiola Choir to Germany and the Czech Republic. Concerts at the concert hall of the Berlin Music Academy, at the Prague Spring festival and at Karlovy Var. The Berlin concert was organized by the Jean Sibelius Society of Germany and the Karlovy Var concert by the Prague Radio children’s choir.

International seminar at the Tolosa Choir Competition and a concert tour in the Basque country.

Concert trip to Bonn in honour of the 75th anniversary of Finland’s independence.

Round-the-world tour lasting five and a half weeks. Des Moines international children’s choir festival, Seattle, Seoul, Suwon. Twelve concerts in Japan and performance at the peace ceremony in Hiroshima on 6 August, organized by Kajimoto Concert Management.
