The Secrets of the Tapiola Sound is a music education DVD which presents the principles, implementation and results of the voice coaching and choral sound of the Tapiola Choir. Its purpose is not only to inform but also to provide teaching material.
The contents of the DVD are based on a music education method developed by Kari Ala-Pöllänen, the then Artistic Director of the Tapiola Choir, on which he has lectured extensively at seminars and workshops around the world.
The DVD consists of four sections:
- The theory section, where the conductor describes the principles and theoretical underlay of the voice coaching of the Tapiola Choir.
- Practical exercises, with the Choir together with voice coach Mari Grönholm demonstrating some of the warm-ups and exercises used in the Choir’s training.
- The Choir shows how to transfer the exercises to the music.
